Archive Material – Station Athens Group

It could be a real-life situation. And perhaps it is, as the performance offers its protagonists—three members of the Station Athens group—a rare opportunity: to see fragments of their lives, to remember or even change their minds, or even to request the deletion of all their recorded data and create a new story.

Yolanda Markopoulou directs Archive Material, an original multimedia site-specific performance that balances live editing, documentary theatre, and interaction between the audience and the actors, in an attempt to bring the present face to face with the past—two, five, or even fifteen years earlier.

From April 24 to April 27, the Drft Space in Koukaki is transformed: into the waiting room of a public service, the dining room of a family dinner, and an unconventional editing room. The audience moves through the space, sometimes observing and sometimes becoming part of the protagonists’ memories and experiences, until they arrive at the present day.

What connects Aidim’s story with that of Lefteris and Halil, so many years later? The space itself creates a distinctive stage composition, while through the live performance and audiovisual archival material, the audience discovers the journey of the Station Athens group.

The audience participates actively, filling in the missing pieces together with the actors.

They become participants and companions on a journey through space and time, one that brings together the history and development of each protagonist.

Through the adventures, joys, and disappointments of Aidim, Halil, and Lefteris, the personal and collective journey of a theatre group emerges—a journey that at times coincides with, and at other times transcends, the individual stories of its members.
